The electronic chicken bbs is a multinode telnet BBS, serving up ansi graphics, chat, door games, file and message bases.

The BBS is open to everybody, and registration is free and simple. In fact, if you've already registered for a website user account on electronicchicken.com, then you're already registered to use the BBS. If not, you can go and register now, or telnet to bbs.electronicchicken.com and sign up there.

You'll need a telnet application to connect to the BBS. If you don't already have one that you like, try SyncTERM. SyncTERM is available for almost all versions of Windows (95 through XP), Linux, Mac OS X, and several BSD variants. Unlike many telnet applications, SyncTERM handles ANSI graphics quite nicely, offers a fullscreen mode for that monotasking DOS feeling, and even supports X, Y, and Zmodem downloads. Having used many telnet clients to connect to BBSes over the years, with few good experiences, I can't say enough good things about SyncTERM.

The electronic chicken bbs runs on Mystic BBS 1.07.3, and resides on a sucky old Compaq Pentium III system tucked in beside my desk.

Using a variety of third-party external applications, web-side scripts and Mystic Programming Language executables of my own devising, the BBS and website communicate and integrate with one another. When you create an account on the website, the website contacts the BBS and creates an account for you there. When you create an account on the BBS, the BBS contacts the website and creates an account for you here. Each time you log into the BBS, it connects to the website and refreshes its list of bulletins, which are generated from the five most recent blog entries on the website. Additionally, the message bases on the BBS are accessible via the web, so registered users can communicate with one another from either interface.

Thanks for visiting. Enjoy the BBS, and please call back often and participate in the door games and message areas. Activity will keep the board alive.
